Intraocular Contact Lens
Intraocular Contact Lens (ICL) is a new microsurgical procedure to correct significant levels of myopia (nearsightedness). The procedure involves an intraocular surgery where a thin plastic lens is placed in front of the natural lens of the eye to improve vision. Just like glasses and contact lenses, which help to refocus the light into the eye, the ICL accomplishes the goal through a permanent intraocular lens. Although the procedure is considered permanent, the method is reversible as the ICL can be removed.
ICLs may be considered for patients unable to have laser vision correction for a variety of reasons including certain corneal conditions. Performed under local anesthesia, patients undergo a swift surgery without undue discomfort and rapid recovery. The procedure is performed on one eye at a time and there will be a few weeks before both eyes can achieve optimal vision.
The ICL procedure may have the least risk of any intraocular refractive surgery while still providing exceptional improvements in vision!
